Sponsorship Projects: Baby Watoto
Watoto began caring for abandoned babies in 2007 when ‘The Bulrushes’ babies home in Kampala, Uganda was opened.
Preemie babies to toddlers found on rubbish heaps or abandoned in hospitals and police stations are brought to The Bulrushes where they receive food, medical care, and unconditional love. When these babies are old enough, they enter a Watoto Children’s Village where they join a family and continue their journey to become Africa’s next generation of leaders.
Today Watoto runs three babies homes: The Bulrushes as well as a brand new home in Suubi village and one in Gulu, northern Uganda. All their physical needs are met in these 24/7 facilities, along with medical care, and unconditional love.
Amos*
Little Amos was born an orphan. His single mother died during childbirth in May 2008. Without any known relatives to look after him, Amos was taken to the Bulrushes Babies’ Home, a WLF Sponsorship Project.
In 2009, Amos moved into a Watoto Village home where a loving housemother and seven new brothers and sisters welcomed him.
