When was One Day for One established?

The One Day for One workplace campaign was established in 2010 as a means to raise funds for WLF projects such as baby, child, house mother, HIV+ woman, and former LRA child soldier sponsorship.

Who donates to One Day for One?

This is a workplace campaign so the primary donors are employees of host companies. However, anyone may donate to One Day for One and receive a tax receipt. Payroll deductions will be receipted at the end of February. Tax receipts for online donations will be automatically generated and emailed to the address you provide.

What is One Day for One’s relationship to the Watoto Leadership Foundation?

One Day for One is the primary fundraising event for Watoto Leadership Foundation (WLF) projects.

Who benefits from the One Day for One campaign?

This campaign is focused on improving the well-being of abandoned African babies, orphans, house mothers, HIV+ women, and former LRA child soldiers. Watoto is committed to promoting a holistic model of individual and community development.

Are the people profiles on the REAL PEOPLE REAL NEED pages legitimate?

These people really do exist and their stories are true. You will notice that their names have been changed for the protection of their privacy.

How does a donor designate a gift to a specific project?

It’s easy. Simply go to the Donate page and select one of the six choices listed under Gift Allocation.

What percentage of my donation is used for administration?

One Day for One is managed by a very small staff and lots of volunteers. We keep our administration costs down to 10%.

Giving

I feel pressured to give to the One Day for One campaign. What should I do?

No one should feel forced to give to One Day for One. Giving is a personal choice that should be made voluntarily. If you feel that someone is pressuring you to give, please speak to your Campaign Coordinator.

I would like to volunteer for One Day for One. How do I go about doing this?

Volunteers are a very important part of One Day for One. In fact, this campaign would not be possible without hundreds of dedicated volunteers. To learn about volunteer opportunities, go to our Volunteer page.

Why should I give to One Day for One?

One Day for One provides an opportunity for average Canadians to join together to do something about poverty in Africa, homeless orphans, HIV/AIDS, and LRA victims.

Who is the founder of One Day for One and how is it governed?

The founder of One Day for One is Don Winsor, CEO of Watoto Canada. One Day for One is governed by a Board of Directors.

What is One Day for One’s mission statement?

One Day for One is committed to the holistic development of HIV/AIDS and war orphans, abandoned babies, abused women and widows in Africa. Our goal is to rescue, heal and nurture the most vulnerable so that they may have the opportunity to become Africa’s future leaders.

Privacy

How do I know my personal information will be protected?

One Day for One will not make public the name of, nor donation amount made by, our donors. Neither would we ever sell our donor list to a third party. Your privacy, respect, and continued support for One Day for One is important to us.

Tax Receipts

How do I get a tax receipt for my donation?

If you contributed via payroll deduction at your workplace, it should be reflected on your T4. If you donated online, a tax receipt will be issued at the end of the year to the address you provided.

What are the tax advantages of charitable giving?

Donations to One Day for One fully qualify for charitable tax credits provided by the federal government. Taxpayers receive a Federal Tax credit of 17 per cent for the first $200 of charitable donations and 29 per cent on all donations in excess of $200. The provincial tax credit varies from province to province.

Which monetary donations to One Day for One can be receipted and which cannot?

Tax receipts can be issued for all donations made by cash, cheque, credit card, payroll deduction and automatic bank withdrawal. Donations not made online are easiest to receipt when accompanied by a One Day for One employee pledge form.

Special Event contributions such as draw tickets, 50/50 and lottery tickets, auction and garage sale purchases, coin drives and food purchases are not eligible for a tax receipt. A receipt cannot be issued when you receive something of value in return for your contribution.

However, if the value of the benefit received is less than the funds contributed, then a receipt may be issued for the difference.
