Sponsorship Projects: Watoto Project Gulu

For over 20 years, Gulu, Uganda has suffered under the rebel oppression of the LRA (Lord’s Resistance Army). Children have been abducted and turned into soldiers trained to terrorize their own families and communities.

Project Gulu is a multi-faceted, holistic care program aimed at rebuilding this war-ravaged community. Project Gulu provides trauma counseling and rehabilitation of former child soldiers and "sex slaves" of LRA soldiers, community counseling, a fresh water project, fair trade goods and agricultural training for sustainability.

David was abducted on his way to school one day and forced to be a child-soldier. When he was finally released, he was no longer the same. Traumatized by his experiences, David is receiving counselling from Watoto social workers.

David has now found hope and purpose as a result of Watoto Project Gulu. David no longer has nightmares. Instead, David dreams of becoming a doctor. “I want to give life back to people,” he said.
